Critical Reflections

Developing quality reflections and CRITICAL REFLECTIONS

Reflective practice is a natural part of every day for Early Childhood Educators. However, there is difference between Reflective Practice, Reflection, and Critical Reflection. The changes in EYLF 2.0 has increased the expectation of Critical Reflection and ongoing professional learning. Some Educators find it difficult to understand how to embed and document these various practices. Attending professional development about this often explains WHAT the differences are and WHY these things are important but rarely provide ideas about HOW to actually do it.

  • Do Educators understand the distinction between reflection and critical reflection?

  • Are Educators aware of the variety of resources to support critical reflection in everyday practice?

  • Are Lead Educators involved in supporting Educator Assistants with reflective practice?

  • Is your Educational Leader aware of how to support critical reflection?

  • Do you have documentation/templates that might support reflection/critical reflection?

This workshop will briefly explain the differences between Reflective Practice, Reflection, and Critical Reflection. However, most of the workshop will focus on how to actually do reflections, support reflections, monitor reflections and improve reflections.
